Pat Kroth and I attended the SAQA conference, Expanding Horizons,
in Santa Fe a couple of weeks ago. It was a great confernece - topics
were interesting and varied and also a chance to meet other members and
learn a LOT!
The next
conference will be held May 1-4, 2014 in Washington, DC. It will be the
25th annivesary of the founding of SAQA and there are lots of things
being planned for the celebration. It would be great to have lots of
Wisconsin and Illinois members come. Washington has so much to offer and
to see.
We hope everyone is working on their submissions for The Eye and the Needle.
We have at elast 2 venues firmed up and a couple more in the works so
this exhibit will get a lot of attention in various places. Deadline is coming up: June 1, 2013!
Pat
and I are also working on a potential field trip for members. We are
thinking of a 2-3 day trip down to Paducah with a stop in Champaign to
see Deborah Fell's studio and go to IDEA - a place for lots of recyled
goodies. Then on to Paducah for gallery visits, and to see the SAQA
exhibit Seasonal Palette, at the National Quilt Musuem.
We are working on a potential venue in Paducah or Champaign for The Eye and the Needle. This trip would probably take place in November. We hope there will interest in going.
Please
also consider signing up to help with the SAQA booth June 21-24 at the
IQF show in Rosemont. Cathy Mendola and Shelly Brucar have been hard at
work on this and we still need help! You will get into the show for free
and have time to go see what is happening!
