Jean M. Judd - Octagon Center for the Arts

Greetings All,
The Octagon Center for the Arts has announced textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin as one of the artists selected for inclusion in the 47th All Media 2015 Art exhibition. The exhibition is open to all media and methods including but not limited to: clay, fiber, paper, glass, metal, wood, painting, collage, photography, and jewelry. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Rusted Lace #2.
Exhibit juror Pauline Verbeek-Cowart, Department Chair of the Fiber department and Professor at the Kansas City Art Institute, has selected 65 artworks from a submission pool of 323 artworks. The exhibit opens on January 23, 2015 and is open through April 4, 2015.
The opening reception and awards presentation is on January 23, 2015 from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The address for the exhibition is:

Jean M. Judd - ERAAA

Greetings All,

The Elk River Area Arts Alliance (ERAAA) has announced textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin as one of the artists selected for inclusion in the Arts in Harmony 2015 International Juried Art exhibition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Flaming Grapes. This is Judd’s eighth year being included in this prestigious exhibition which features paintings, drawings, hand-pulled prints, mixed media, fiber, photography, ceramics, glass, sculpture, and sequential art.

Exhibit juror Curt Pederson, Curator of Exhibits and Collections at the American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis, Minnesota has selected 224 artworks from one of the largest submission pools ever received: 640 artworks. The exhibit opens on February 2, 2015 and is open through March 26, 2015. The artist reception and awards presentation (over $12,500) is on February 8, 2015 from 1 to 3:30pm. The Art Essex Gallery in Essex, Connecticut has selected textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin for inclusion in the 2014 Summer Invitational Juried Exhibition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Rusted lace #1.

Jean M. Judd @ Wild Apple Gallery

Greetings All,

The Wisconsin Visual Artists (WVA) NE Chapter has included textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin in the Wild Apple Gallery exhibition “Small Works – Large Appeal”. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Stained Glass Mosaic #4.

This exhibition of artwork includes all artistic media but is limited to artwork that is no larger than 12”x12”x12”. There will be 25 artists with artworks on display at the exhibition. The WVA is the oldest art organization in the state of Wisconsin founded in 1901.

Jean M. Judd-Update

Greetings All,

The Art Institute and Gallery in Salisbury, Maryland has selected textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin for inclusion in the 22^nd National Juried Exhibition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Stepping Stones.

This national juried exhibition of artwork includes all mediums including 3D, photography, and other unique genres of art. Exhibit juror: Maiza Hixson, Gretchen Hupfel Curator of Contemporary Art at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts (DCCA), selected 39 artworks for the exhibition from a submission pool of over 250 artworks.

Jean M. Judd - Nicolet College Art Gallery

The Nicolet Art Gallery at Nicolet College in Rhinelander, Wisconsin has selected textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin for inclusion in the 27^th Annual Northern National Art Competition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit: Contaminated Water #5: Mutated Sand Dollars, Rusted Fish.

This is annual national juried exhibition of 2D fine arts media including photography and mixed media work. Exhibit juror, Linda Benedict-Jones, Adjunct Professor at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania has selected 87 artworks from a pool of 512 for the exhibition.

he South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado, Arkansas has selected textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin for inclusion in the 2014 SAAC Juried Art Exhibition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes:

This is annual national juried exhibition of 2D and 3D fine arts media including video, photography and computer generated work. Exhibit juror, Dayton Castleman, Museum Manager for 21c Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas has selected 39 artworks by 31 artists for the exhibition. Mr. Castleman said: “I’m not so much concerned with whether art is easily digestible to the viewer, but with whether it demonstrates an illusiveness and maturity that creates intrigue and requires deep reading and engagement.”

Jean M. Judd - Dairy Barn Arts Center

Greetings All,

The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, Ohio has selected textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin for inclusion in the Art We Use National Exhibition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Contaminated Water #2: Pond Scum and Flaming Grapes.

This is a new national juried exhibition of OBJECTS, with a broad base of media – works in wood, clay, metal, glass, paper, and fiber. Exhibit jurors: Craig Nutt, Director of Programs for CERF+; Jennifer Poellot Harnetty, editor of ceramicartsdaily.org; and Paul W. Richelson, chief curator Mobile Museum of Art, selected sixty-nine (69) artists for the exhibition. There will be 128 artworks to view during the exhibit run.

Jean M. Judd/Profiles in Passion Volume One

Greetings All,

Textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin was one of 51 artists and artisans selected for inclusion in the Profiles in Passion Volume One: Artists & Artisans book just released March of 2014 by freelance writer, Buz Swerkstrom.

Swerkstrom has spent the last 30 years interviewing over 300 artists and artisans in northwestern Wisconsin and beyond. These interviews conducted with a tape recorder and still camera, reveal the creative passion each of these featured people bring to their work. Originally small portions of these interviews were featured in regional newspapers and magazines. They are now are being expanded to provide a more clear and whole picture of each artist’s passion, process, and personal story.

This first volume features artists who work with wood, metal, ceramics, glass, textiles, film, paint, photography, and several other mediums. The interviews in their studios are recreated here in such a way that readers will feel they are part of the conversation.

Upcoming Exhibit info and workshop

Below is a post from the Illinois SDA blog. I thought many of the SAQA members might be interested in seeing the exhibit and learning about the workshop. Any interest in a field trip????

Greetings from Southern Illinois. It's been awhile since I last posted. Let me reintroduce myself. I am Pat Vivod.

Elizabeth Adams-Marks and I are co-curating an international exhibition at the Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, IL that opens this August. We have invited Fabienne Rey of the Netherlands, Irit Dulman of Israel and Rio Wrenn of Portland, Oregon to join us in the exhibition. Elizabeth and I live just eight miles apart and have known each other for over a decade. The five of us have been Facebook and blog friends for a few years.

All of us work with natural materials, Fabienne with silk and felt, Irit with felt and both do eco-printing, Rio and I work with with rust, and Elizabeth with handmade paper, indigo and rust. All of us have exhibited widely. If you are a subscriber to Fiber Art Now, you may recognize our names from the Summer 2013 issue. Fabienne, Irit and I were featured in Wendy Feldberg's article Unearthing Eco-dyes. Irit shared the magazine article on her blog here.

Our exhibit is titled From the Inside Out: Revelations in Natural Mark Making and has already been a year in the making. The title is a reference, in part, to how we work. You can read all about the exhibit and see artist profiles at our blog From the Inside Out.

From the Inside Out will run from August 22 to October 4, 2014
Opening reception is August 22, 5 to 9 pm.
There will be an artist talk that evening with Elizabeth and I--and we are keeping our fingers crossed that Rio Wrenn will be able to join us. We are negotiating for her to teach a one day workshop, so stay tuned.

We hope you can see the show. If you can't make the opening, but want a tour of the exhibit contact me when you'll be in Alton. I'll be happy to meet you at the gallery.

We are also pleased to announce that Fabienne Rey will be zooming over from the Netherlands to teach a workshop in conjunction with our exhibit in September.

From The Inside Out: Eco-Prints and Memory Cloth I is a 3 day intensive workshop to be held outdoors in a garden setting about 30 minutes east of downtown St. Louis. The workshop will be limited to 12 participants. No eco-dye experience necessary.

Fabienne will also give a gallery talk at Jacoby Arts Center in Alton on September 18, 7 pm.

Blue World/Green World includes 34 pieces by 16 of our members. Works for this exhibit range from representational to impressionistic to abstract. This exhibit promotes serenity and groundedness. Members of the Fiber Artists Coalition employ a variety of innovative materials and techniques in the creation of quilt art with a distinctively contemporary edge.

Jean M. Judd - Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum

Jean M. Judd, N.S.A. will be apart of this exhibit at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Mesa, Arizona has selected textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin for inclusion in the 35th Annual Contemporary Crafts Exhibition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Twirling Leaves #2. This is Judd’s fourth year being included in this exhibition.

This exhibition highlights the finest in contemporary crafts from around the country and is a benchmark of innovation and quality produced within traditional craft forms such as ceramics, fibers, basketry, metals, wood, glass, jewelry, paper making and book arts. Forty-six artworks by thirty-five artists were selected from a pool of 248 submissions by exhibition juror Independent Curator Julie M. Muñiz of the Oakland Museum of California.

SAQA Help Needed

I know that many of you helped with the booth for SAQA last year but they are desprately in need of help again this year. Please consider taking this on - we all get a lot from SAQA - can anyone help give back?

SAQA is looking for two volunteer booth coordinators for the Sewing and Quilting Expo, March 27-29, in Shaumberg, IL and for the International Quilt Festival, Chicago- June 20 -22.

Please contact Desi Vaughn if you are interested. If there are two of you that would like to share the coordinating duties for either of the shows, that is great too.
