SAQAIL/WI group that has put on an exhibit that will run at the famous Fermilab in Batavia IL. If you live in the area this is a wonderful opportunity to visit the facility and then see some great art pieces. I hope you can make the artist reception on November 18 from 5-7. Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts Exhibition

FIBER ARTISTS COALITION presents two traveling exhibits, “Some Like It Hot” and “13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird” at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg, IL. The show runs November 1 through November 27.Fiber Artists Coalition is a group of Midwestern textile artists who are also professional artist members of Studio Art Quilt Associates. These artists have joined together to promote the art quilt by bringing this exciting art form to the public through traveling art exhibits.

The works of Fiber Artists Coalition are not bed quilts, but art works created from commercial fabrics as well as many uniquely designed fabrics. Some of the techniques FAC members use are: dyeing, painting, stamping, printing, batik, shibori, discharge, embellishment, collage, and assemblage. Most of their works are hand or machine stitched, adding additional texture and design.

Fiber is organic, and fiber art is vibrant, alive, warm and inviting. You are invited to share the artists’ enthusiasm for this unique medium. For more information: Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 847-895-3600.

Katherine Sands - Innovations in Textiles 2011

Greetings All,
Some news from Katherine Sands who has two pieces that will be included in the Missouri Fiber Artists exhibit "Speaking of Fibers" which will be on view from October 1-31. This is part of the Innovations in Textiles 2011 celebration in St. Louis. Opening reception is October 6 at Maryville University. My pieces are Weathered Places and Fragments of a Life 5b. Victoria Payne Crowder of Kansas City was the juror for this exhibit. Thanks.

Innovation in Textiles-9

"Ties that Bind: Art Quilts by Members of the Fiber Artists Coalition" will open September 16 – December 3, 2011. This exhibition presents a selection of quilted works by members of the Fiber Artists Coalition, in conjunction with the citywide biennial Innovations in Textiles celebration, now in its 9th year and is held at the Sheldon Gallery in St. Louis, MO.

Included in the exhibition are works by Pat Bishop, Kathie Briggs, Jennifer Conrad, Clairan Ferrono, Linda Witte Henke, Kasia, Peg Keeney, Pat Kroth, Edna Patterson-Petty, Casey Puetz, Gwyned Trefethen, Laura Wasilowski, Maggie Weiss and Trish Williams.

Innovations in Textiles is a citywide, collaborative event in St. Louis, MO, that investigates the state of contemporary textile arts.

SAQA 2011 Benefit Auction.

Greetings All,

In only a few weeks our annual SAQA 2011 Benefit Auction will begin! I probably should use my space here to emphasize repeatedly that the Auction is our single most important fundraising event of the year, but I'm too excited about the artwork on display in our website to talk about fundraising.
Can you believe it? More than 300 small-format quilts by our members are being offered. Thank you to all the talented, generous people who donated artwork. I have my eye on at least four pieces and only hope that I can control my bidding fever in September. This year I am thinking of trying to create a "theme wall" by purchasing several quilts that could hang together effectively. The "dream collections" of nine quilts each, being curated online from the auction site, are inspiring me to think thematically. Go ahead and select your own "dream collection," and bid early to have a chance to build it with the actual quilts!
