Broad Changes: Women of Social Justice" & Trish Williams

Greetings All,
My piece "Harriett's Gone Up Yonder" will be a part of  "Broad Changes: Women of Social Justice" art quilt exhibition.  An Exhibition featuring 25 original artworks from an international fiber artist group, Fiber Artists for Hope.

August 16th- September 15th, 2013...
Opening Reception: Friday August 16th, 6-10PM Chicago, IL—The HumanThread Center at the Bridgeport Art Center proudly presents the work of The Fiber Artists for Hope in its next exhibition, Broad Changes: Women of Social Justice. The Fiber Artists for Hope (FAH) is a diverse group of artists representing all aspects of the human experience including race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, age, and nationality committed to creating fiber art that addresses today's social issues, promoting dialogue for change, and fostering understanding.

Exhibition Concept: The word "broad" is a feisty reference to women; when combined with "changes," it implies a double meaning, since broad can mean big. This term used in our title aligns with the definition from Womanwords: A Dictionary of Words about Women (1985) by feminist Jane Mills, where she defines BROAD as, "a woman who is liberal, tolerant, unconfined and not limited or narrow in scope."

Opening Night Reception: Bridgeport Art Center, Friday August 16th, 6-10pm.

BAC: 1200 W. 35th Street, Chicago, IL 60609 (Enter on North Side off of Racine/34th).

There is a parking lot next to the building. Exhibition will be on the 5th floor. This is in conjunction with Bridgeport’s 3rd Friday opening receptions, including several other art openings and open studio tour.

Entering the SAQA 2014 Anniversary Trunk Show

Lets try and have a HUGE representation in this show from our region. Pat and I took the one of the current trunk shows around to many venues this year and it got a terrific response. It would be wonderful to have our region well-represented.

SAQA 2014 Anniversary Trunk Show

An up-close-and-personal look at SAQA artists' works

Join SAQA in celebrating our 25th amazing year with your trunk show submission! This traveling exhibition asks SAQA members to create a 10" x 7" art quilt that showcases their artistic expression.
The 2014 Anniversary Trunk Show will premiere at the 2014 SAQA conference in Washington, DC, and then travel all across the United States and around the world. A group of quilts from this exhibition will be chosen by jurors Linda Colsh and Margaret “Peg” Keeney to become a permanent part of the collection of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky.
Submissions for the 2014 Anniversary Trunk Show must meet the following criteria:
  • Quilted pieces must have three layers, and measure 10" high x 7" wide (25.4 x 17.8 cm) in a PORTRAIT orientation. All embellishments must fit within the 10" x 7" size.
  • SAQA will mount artwork on a 12 x 9" black backing board.
  • Quilts must lie flat, and fit within a clear envelope, therefore dimensional work will not be
  • allowed for this show.
  • Edges of quilts must be finished. The method is at the artist's discretion (bound, stitched,
  • etc).
  • All quilts must have a label on the back, with the title (or "Untitled") and artist's name clearly
  • written.
  • Artwork must meet the SAQA definition of an art quilt: The art quilt is a creative visual work
  • that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.
  • Quilts could travel for up to three years. They must stay with the Trunk during the entire exhibition period.
  • Participation fee is $10 to cover cost of materials and return shipping.
  • Only ONE piece per artist can be accepted.
  • If you wish your quilt to be for sale, please indicate its price on the entry form. (Otherwise,
  • enter NFS or Not For Sale.) SAQA will keep a 25% commission on all sales.
  • Due to the constraints of international travel costs, SAQA will not be insuring this exhibition. An insurance waiver is included in the form.
  • A photography waiver is also included in the form.
  • Quilts are due no later than Friday, January 31, 2014 to the SAQA 2014 Trunk Show Coordinator.

The submission form is at https://www.saqa.com/trunk-submit.php

Quilts are to be sent directly to the 2014 SAQA Trunk Show Coordinator:
Eileen Doughty

Mancuso - Pretty Planet - FAC

Greetings All,
Do you ever Google yourself to see what's out there?  Well today I did and this is what I found.

Pretty Planet is an exhibit of art quilts inspired by the beauty of the earth. Members of the Fiber Artists Coalition find inspiration in the environment, the people, and the joy of living in a wonderful world. Whether firmly planted in the soil or soaring through the sky, their art absorbs and reflects this pretty planet.

Thank you Mancuso, Laura Wasilowski, and FAC for allowing me to be a part of this exhibit.
